Sarah Elkin Sociology 211 Final Project Paper The Women of Ciudad Juarez A Global Problem Juarez is a border town just a hop, skip and jump or a short walk across the bridge away from El, Paso Texas USA. Ciudad Juarez is the largest city in the State of Chihuahua and the 5th (some say 4th) largest city in all of Mexico. With a population of almost 2 million people, this city is by no means a sleepy little border town. To the unknowing eye, especially the American Eye it may appear to be a place of color, vibrancy, cheap crafts, "drink till you drown" night clubs, a good place to escape American life. In reality Juarez is something else entirely. While it is a place of color and vibrancy, it is also a place of extreme poverty, maquiladoras, corruption, and murder most foul, especially for the women living in this dangerous city.
