The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood among Ghosts by Maxine Hong The Woman Warrior: Memoirs of a Girlhood among Ghosts by Maxine Hong Kingston, portrays the place of women in Chinese history. This has been one of the main topics from our in-class discussions and lectures in Chinese 49. Kingston uses a recurring theme, which is the role of women in traditional Chinese society, and how they are viewed compared to men. Each chapter focuses on a woman that affects Kingston's life, and how each woman relates to the traditional Chinese male-dominated society around them. The book is about a Chinese American woman writing about Chinese myths, family stories, and events of her childhood that has affected her identity.
