Antoine Allen 12K The Sea by Edward bond Plot and sub plot, The recipe to The Sea by Edward bond, was taking an archetypal plot, the ill-timed appearance of a 'alien' into a small, inwardly focused society, sparks a plethora of events to happen; the word alien not simply coining its original connotation. This spark is lit by Willy Carson, shipwrecked on a beach in 1900s East Anglia in a storm, which killed his boating friend. In addition with tension between contrasting social and sanity: the monolithic reign of Mrs Rafi versus the cataclysm promised by the escalating commercial class, embodied by Hatch the local draper, who is of the mentally disturbed persuasion. His madness transgresses with the idea that Willy is an alien from outer space. Along with other amusing characters, we build a picture of the inherent problems this society and our society face.
