The School Benefits The Individual By Teaching Them How To Fit In. Discuss. There are some groups who do believe that the school benefits the individual, such as Functionalists, and some who do not believe that the school benefits the individual, such as Marxists. The following will discuss both of these groups views about the school and how much it does for the individual. Functionalists base their beliefs of the school on the ideas of meritocracy, equal opportunities and innate intelligence meaning they believe that all students have the same opportunities at school to resources, teachers etc, the harder students work at school the better they will do, and if not it is due to their innate intelligence. They believe that all people have a certain level of intelligence and some people reach the highest level and cannot learn anymore.
