Such a damning statement throughout much of the scientific domain exists nowadays as well as equally opposing views of sociology being a science. How can such a debate be put to rest? Within this debate defining terminology is seminal in understanding; science can be described as any system of knowledge which attempts to model objective reality. In a more restricted sense, science refers to a system of acquiring knowledge based on the scientific method, as well as to the organized body of knowledge gained through such research. Also within this debate are two theoretical positions; positivism and interpretivism. Positivist theory is based on the belief that explanations and knowledge should be based on empirical scientific method.
