Social problems seem to exist as long as there will be inequality within the society. In modern times we live in a capitalist society, a society in which people produce and exchange privately owned commodities. It is not hard to understand that without any rules the society will turn into a competition of the survival of the fittest, total disorder. That is why we make, preserve and amend rules under which we live. That activity is called politics, an activity performed by the government1. To improve social welfare, social preconditions of well-being, social problems should be diminished or at least reduced. To reduce inequality the government could interfere in the market and distribute money from the rich to the poor, by progressive taxation.
