Oppression We have been exploring the theme of oppression in Drama. We saw a cartoon by the German artist George Grosz and worked on an extract from Harold Pinter's play 'Mountain Language'. We looked at a cartoon first by Grosz was very strong and powerful, it showed who had authority by being in the foreground playing cards and smoking with high class clothing and the oppressed in the background being left there in their horrible state, forgotten. We discussed the meaning of oppression and came to a conclusion that it meant status and who has it and in what way they exploit having it. So having a oppressed society means that the soldiers and inspectors in this case can do what they want when they want to anybody or the would be locked up without event being able to say a word.
