Medicalisation Medicalisation is a term which is now used for something that was once defined as religious, morally or socially, such as bad behaviour. Bad behaviour or naughty children were once part of society. Nowadays there is a medical term for being naughty, with medical intervention it is now called A..D.H.D. which is controlled by a professional team and drugs. The normality of society has been overtaken by medicine, all of society is possibly being turned into patients. Ivan Illich is a sociologist who is very critical of medicalisation, he has a theory which has 3 elements, and he calls this iatrogenesis. Clinical iatrogenesis is when the pharmaceutical companies provide the medicines which are profiting the ruling class, actually cause more harm than good, creating harmful side effects, which could make the original condition worse, or even create a whole new problem.
