Liza Pask March 8, 2006 English 12 set 4 Ballad Ballads are the music of the common people. They tell stories that provide entertainment for everyone. Generally, common folk wrote them with a plot that benefits the poor person, or portrays the rich man as being too arrogant. By listening to the events in these musical stories, one can determine what society was like when the song was written. For example, "Hurricane" by Bob Dylan demonstrates several issues that were present in the culture from which it came, specifically violence, racism, and corruption within the legal system. The very opening of the song is a murder within a bar. Three people were killed and the bar was robbed. One of the robbers was still in the bar when the bodies were discovered, however he claimed he didn't do it. The dead victims were lying in a pool of blood as a result of being shot...
