Is the lottery feasible in any aspect of today's society? If the actual lottery in "The Lottery" is reduced to human sacrifice, then it is not only possible in today's society, but it is, in fact, common. Human sacrifice has been practiced by many societies throughout the history of mankind, and is still being practiced today in various forms. The form it takes in "The Lottery" has historically been more common among the tribal, primitive cultures, and was done normally to show respect for and to give thanks to their gods. Today's human sacrifice, however, is of a different kind. Today, the majority of human sacrifices, unfortunately, are brought about by dueling nations, where people from one or both sides of the conflict deem it necessary to sacrifice themselves, often by blowing themselves up, in order to make some statement or gain.
