Explain How, from their different perspectives, Marx, Durkheim and Weber predicted the decline in religion in modern society. Marx, Durkheim and Weber are what we call the "founding fathers" of the secularization debate, which refers to the apparent decline in the influence and importance of religion within society and individuals lives. Bryan Wilson explains secularization as the process whereby religious beliefs and practices lose social significance. In today's society, it is perhaps possible to recognize that religion is less important in many people's lives and Marx, Durkheim, and Weber alike, all predicted that eventually religion would cease to exist. However, their individual motivations for coming to such a conclusion are all very different.
