Examine the contribution of feminism to the study of family life Feminism is a conflict theory, but unlike Marxism, which is a conflict between the social classes, it is a conflict between the two sexes. There are three types of feminism based upon different political and social opinions; radical, Marxist and liberal feminists. Radical feminist believe that men oppress women, and the only way for society to function properly is for women to be in control i.e. a matriarchy. The early radical feminists were very militant and used violence to make the men in power see their point. Some very radical feminists wanted the family as an institution to be done away with as they thought the family was a patriarchal organisation that socialised boys to be competitive and view women as sex objects.
