Stephen Walker 11BH Discuss the consequences Of an ageing population An ageing population is when the average age of the population increases each year. This is caused because of more widespread medical facilities, which can cater for sick or injured people quicker, and, because of advances in modern technology and scientific research, more vaccines and treatments for illnesses have been discovered. This means that people are more likely to live longer than they would have done fifty years ago. In this essay I am going to explain what consequences of having an ageing population are. My first point is that when people get past the age of around 60-65, they will be claiming a state pension. As the life expectancy of individuals is increasing each year, the government are forced to pay out more money each year in pensions.
