Did it really happen? William Faulkner wrote the short story Dry September in 1931. The story describes a lynch mob forming on a hot September evening, due to an alleged rape. Without actually saying so William Faulkner leads me as a reader, to believe that the rape of Miss Minnie Cooper never actually took place. In the following text I will try to substantiate me beliefs. As a Southern writer, Faulkner uses the so called White Goddess concept to explain the tragic event that oh-so hot day in September. Fact physical1 Dry September" clearly shows the horrible miscarriages of justice that prejudice can cause.
