DESCRIBE AN IMPORTANT CHARACTER OR INDIVIDUAL IN EACH TEXT. EXPLAIN WHY EACH CHARACTER IS IMPORTANT. The narrators from both short stories, 'ta tatau' by Emma Kruse Va'ai and 'Beginning of the tournament' by Witi Ihimaera are very important. The narrators are living in a society that is different from there culture. The events that occur within the story are also new to both these narrators. Both 'ta tatau' and 'Beginning of the tournament' are based on Polynesian backgrounds. This story deals with both cultural and moral ethics. Firstly, the narrators are living in a society that is different from there culture. Sarona is a Samoan and lives in Samoa. However, she doesn't live in a village but has a city life: "Didn't have a proper Samoan fale..." Va'ai is attempting to show the changes in the style of living and how the new generation is loosing its identity. The narrator in 'Beginning of the tournament'...
