To make choices is one of the basic human rights however many people are denied that right, especially women in male-dominated societies. In Woman at Point Zero, Nawal El Saadawi portrays the struggles of a young woman, Firdaus, in a society that oppresses and controls women. She is very fearful of the society during the early stages of her life, but as time goes on she becomes more courageous, and stands up against the oppression by murdering a pimp for which she is given capital punishment. In "Osama," a girl is disguised as a boy, but is discovered while undergoing training conducted by the Taliban. It is considered illegal for a woman to be disguised as a man, and the punishment for that is death however because the society is full of lies and hypocrisy she is married off to an old man.
