Compare and contrast the difference between the protagonists' relationship with their mothers in Oranges are not the Only Fruit and The Parvenue. The central points of the contrast between the two texts are the relationships between the protagonist and their mothers in Oranges are not the only Fruit (written by Jeanette Winterson 1959-) and the whole of the short story The Parvenue (written by Mary Shelley 1797-1851). The authors compared had similar unusual upbringings .The Parvenue written by Mary Shelley, which is a short story and is based upon pure fiction whereas Oranges by Jeanette Winterson, a novel, based on the facts of the author's childhood, which makes it almost an autobiography. The Parvenue and Oranges has retrospective narratives. Between The Parvenue and Oranges I prefer Oranges because it is a comic from a child's point of view and is quite ironic. There are quite a lot of sarcastic comments from the protagonist...
