Homework Essay Characters in the scarlet letter In this novel "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathanial Hawthorn, there are many characters. The three main characters are Hester Prynn on who the novel is based, Roger Chillingworth who is the husband of Hester Prynn and Arthur Dimmesdale who is an also major character in the novel because Hester Prynn has committed adultery with him. Hester Prynn is the protagonist of the novel; she is an English woman who is married to Roger Chillingworth. There are some positive and negative aspects about her character. One of the positive aspects of her characters is that she is a compassionate maternal figure. Hawthorn demonstrates this in chapter 7 when she is told that she will get her child taken way from her. "This badge hath taught me-it daily teaches me...lessons whereof my child may be wiser and better, albeit they profit nothing to myself" As he demonstrates...
