... Q1. Study Source A What can you learn from Source A about the British Union of Fascists? Source A is a photograph if a British Union of Fascists march in East London, published in the Times newspaper in October 1936, the same time as the Battle of Cable Street, therefore it is a contemporary source. It is possible to determine from the photo that the BUF were a paramilitary organization for numerous reasons. Firstly, the observing crowds are all saluting to a single leader and his followers, much like a crowd saluting an army. Secondly they are marching and are carrying a banner; this is typical of a paramilitary organization. From my own knowledge I know that the BUF were often called the 'Blackshirts', this was because they wore uniforms, just like a paramilitary organization would. From the picture it is also clear to see that the organization is legal, and
