AO1 Explain what is meant by Euthanasia? What teachings might a Catholic use when discussing this moral issue? Euthanasia is known as the act of bringing about as easy death. In other words, it is when someone who is terminally ill, wants to end their suffering, so commits suicide or has someone kill them. In Britain, it is illegal for a doctor to deliberately give a patient a dose of medicine that will kill them. Euthanasia is not mentioned in the bible but certain Christians are guided by a number of passages. For example, life is a gift from God "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you", (Jeremiah 1:5). This would suggest that only God can start a life, and only God should be allowed to end one. From this Catholics would say that Euthanasia is taking the life of someone out of God's hands, and is therefore wrong....
