1.Why is the Bible important to Christians? The Bible is the Christian holy book, which comes from the Greek word 'Biblia' which means the books. The Great Bible was the first approved English translation in 1539. There are two parts to the bible known as the New Testament and the Old Testament; the word testament means special agreements because both Jews and Christians believe God has made a special agreement with humankind (covenant). The Old Testament is very important to Christians, its historical writings of people were a preparation for the coming of Jesus. The Old Testament has 39 books. The New Testament has 27 books, four of which are the Gospels. These are very important to Christians as they tell the story of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus; people believe their names (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) were the people who wrote them.
