The Altar is the most important part of a Catholic Church. Here everyday, the priest performs the most important act of catholic worship- the mass! At mass the priest repeats what Jesus Christ did on the night before he died. He blesses the bread and wine and after the readings from the scriptures- this is what the reading desk beside the altar is for- the bread and wine is offered. The Altar is also a table because as well all know the mass ends with a meal. It is located in the sanctuary or the crossing.
