Should commercial pilots be allowed to carry guns? This once unthinkable proposition has become a matter of drastic discussion since the deadly hijacking attack of September 11th, on the twin towers. While offering added protection, it could carry numerous risks. Barely two weeks after the attacks Airlines Association of America suggested that the Congress consider a legislation granting airline pilots explicit authority to possess weapons. Up until then there was only an obscure federal regulation seemed not to grant the possession of weapons. The fact is that before September 11th a pilot could scarcely have envisioned calling for cockpit protection in the form of weapons. However, the world has changed and aviation must change with it. Amongst the suggestions being made is to keep stun guns in the cockpit that would electrocute the hijacker without any bloodshed. More controversially is, allowing pilots to volunteer to become sworn federal law enforcement officers....
