It is estimated that 1 in 4 women will experience some form of physical violence in an intimate relationship, every 15 seconds the crime of battering occurs. Battering is a pattern of behaviour used to establish control over another person through fear and intimidation, usually including the threat or use of violence. The abuse escalates, often beginning with small acts of violence in her presence, such as punching walls, breaking ornaments or harming pets. The behaviour becomes gradually worse with physical assaults, sexual abuse or name-calling....
