Semantics. The definition according to Webster's Third New International Dictionary, is of utmost importance to our study (please see my accompanying definitions, page 5), for I believe no matter how substantive our arguments may be, without considering what we say and how we say it, we lose. And very basically that's what Semantics is about, what terms mean and how that meaning may change due to various contexts. Dr. Oss, in Are Miraculous Gifts For Today? : Four Views, section B of his chapter, initiates his presentation by stating "Specifically, discussions about the validity of nonconversion experiences of the Spirit should not deteriorate into term-shifting debates concerning the definitions of technical theological terminology. The issue is too important to lose sight of by simply 'talking through' the doctrinal grids and terminology of others"(emphasis mine).
