Miracles Do miracles really happen or can science prove them wrong? Many people believe that miracles happen, caused by God in order to help or benefit people. An example of a 'miracle' is the spring of water in Lourdes, a small town in France. A young woman once saw visions of the virgin Mary in the grotto containing the spring, and once the vision said 'I am the immaculate conception'. Millions of people now make pilgrimages to bathe in the spring and there have been some recorded mysterious cures of incurable illnesses. Many people believe that these are miracles. There is no scientific explanation for the seemingly random curing of the sick people. A fundamentalist would say that having a high faith in God caused the person to be cured, and God is showing that he exists and is powerful and kind.
