Euthanasia is the bringing about on "easy death" sometimes referred to as "mercy killing" as the patient is usually suffering a great deal and it is wanted to ease the pain. There are two types of euthanasia, voluntary (active) and involuntary (passive) euthanasia. Voluntary involves the patient themselves making there wish known and asking for assistance to end their life. Involuntary is when the decision to end the patients life is made on behalf of that person as they are incapable of any decisions, like when they are in a permanent vegetative state.
