Poverty "Poverty= the state or condition of being poor; lack of the means of providing material needs or comforts; lack of something necessary." Taken from the Reader's Digest Universal Dictionary. "More than a lack of what is necessary for material well-being, poverty can also mean the denial of opportunities and choices most basic to human development-to lead a long, healthy, creative life; to have a decent standard of living" Taken from the State of Human Development 1998. When one thinks of poverty, the usual thought is, third-world countries, pictures from the television and newspapers of Ethiopian children suffering from malnutrition etc. However if we look at the second statement above, we can see that poverty might spread more throughout the world. If you take what you may think you need for a month= food, drink, rent money, money for bills, petrol money, money for going out, etc it all adds up to a lot...
