The Ten Commandments clearly state, "thou shall not kill", and Christians believe that only God has the Divine Right to take away life. However, killing takes place all around the world, every second of the day, in a variety of forms, from abortion to cold blooded, calculated murder. To break this commandment is to commit a 'mortal sin'. The word mortal itself being derived from 'mortis' meaning death and such a serious sin results in the death of the life of Christ in which a person is baptised. Forgiveness therefore, in cases of deliberate murder is, understandably, an extremely difficult act. Particularly, if there is a direct personal involvement; a close friend, or relative of the victim. Society punishes murderers, and different countries vary in the type of punishment passed.
