SECTION A (i) Abortion is the removal or expulsion of an unborn foetus from the womb, resulting in or caused by it's death. This can occur as a miscarriage or can be induced by chemical or surgical procedures. An abortion can only take place before the point of viability, which is the point at which the unborn foetus would be able to survive independently outside of its mother's womb. This is a literal, dictionary definition of the word, but different people take different views and interpret it in individual ways. There are quite a few different methods which can be put into practice when performing an abortion, some more gruesome than others. One method is suction aspiration, which is the most common and takes place before the pregnancy has gone beyond twelve weeks.
