Non Partisan Overview Of Abortion The dictionary definition of abortion is: "Natural or induced expulsion of the foetus before it can survive" However a 'Natural Abortion' is more commonly known as a miscarriage. Induced abortion is when the mother's decides to terminate her pregnancy. In 2000 175,542 abortions were performed on women who lived in England and Wales. Most women who decide to have an abortion are between 16-25 and about 90% of abortions are because of personal reasons such as age, marital status - most are not in a relationship and financial reasons - the costs of brining up a child can be very high. Only about 6% of abortions are because of health concerns of either the mother if the baby is born or of the baby been born with handicapped or deformed. A small minority of abortions are due to a sexual assault such as rape where the mother does...
