Explain the beliefs that Christians hold about the responsabilities for those at the beginning and end of their lives Abortion was legalised in 1967 because too many "back-street" abortions were taking place using knitting needles or other potentially fatal methods. Many babies were born with disabilities and women sometimes died or were seriously injured. The abortion law states that after 24 weeks a child is not to be aborted unless the mothers' life is in danger. This is because at that stage a baby is fairly well developed. Christians believe that life is sacred and many believe that it begins at conception, others believe life starts when the child starts having brain waves. Whatever their personal opinions on the point at which life starts, pretty much all disagree on aborting a babies' life after that point, killing an unborn child would be just the same as killing a young born child....
