This is because He is seen as the creator of the whole of the universe, and its' occupants. Even though man does not have a major role to play, he is still the high point of God's creations. In the beginning when God created the earth, it was empty and formless. Then, He created man and the animals to live on it. This is why all life comes from God. When a child is born of the Catholic faith, the family of the child believe that we are given the gift of life from God.
