Describe and explain the teachings of the religion you are studying about the sanctity of life in relation to abortion What is abortion? The religion I am studying is Christianity. A dictionary description of abortion is "operation to end a pregnancy." It is the premature expulsion of the foetus from the womb. Sometimes this happens spontaneously, this is called a miss-carriage. Abortion is allowed at any age, although there is a legal age at when sexual intercourse can happen this is not always obeyed. For an abortion to take place two doctors must agree that the abortion meets the specific criteria. There has to be a risk to the mother or baby's mental or physical health. This leaves a large loop-hole in the law as anyone could claim it will damage there mental health. Abortion 'must be carried out in a hospital or in a place approved by the Secretary of State.'
