Abortion: A Christian perspective A large number of people view abortion as a means of escaping from having to deal with a pregnancy and the birth of a child. Yet, although they do not condone murder, they do not consider abortion to be a form of murder. The bible, however, is quite clear on the fact that a foetus is a living being, with an eternal soul. It would therefore mean that abortion is equivalent to murdering a person. We know that God created man in His image. God also gave Adam and Eve the ability to reproduce and form new humans. So, their children would also be in their likeness, having a body, a soul and a spirit. At conception, the female egg (which has 23 chromosomes) fuses with the male gamete, which also has 23 chromosomes. It is only after this fusion process that the foetus contains 46 chromosomes.
