Hinduism Coursework Section A A mandir is a Hindu place of worship. Hindu's think of it as a house for the main God or Goddess, which is especially honoured there. It is also used as a community centre (mainly in Britain). Serving also as a social centre it can host events such as: dancing, theatre, singing etc. These all help bring together the Hindu community as well as serving for a place to socialise and meet new people. Hindu Birth Ceremonies are also performed at some Mandirs as well as Wedding ceremonies. Mandirs can also be used for education, teaching languages such as Gujerati and Hindi. Mandirs in India are usually built near rivers, as they are considered 'pure'. Where as Mandirs in Britain are usually converted buildings as it is not usually possible to built Mandirs near rivers.
