In today's society I don't think it is impossible to be a disciple but it is very hard and basically requires you to "take up your cross." In our modern world today it is hard to be a disciple. Success, popularity, and greed all these values are taking over most people. The elderly, sick, poor and the hungry are all suffering while others have more than enough to live on. There are so many pressures placed on people today to be successful and to be this and happy you have to be married, have a good job and has plenty of money.
