What can a study of St Marks Gospel tell Christians about the nature of discipleship? A disciple is a person who follows and loves Jesus and helps to spread the teachings of what Jesus taught. They are a member of the new community, and they become more and more like Jesus through a life of faith and obedience. Discipleship is an important theme in Mark's Gospel. It is important for Christians today as it was for the first disciples of Jesus. It cannot be done in a half-hearted way. It means to Christians to give up everything for other people and God. A disciple is someone who regards that teacher as possessing the truth and wants to learn from him.
