Examine the design argument for the existence of god. The design argument is based on one aspect of the universe - its apparent regularity and purpose. The universe appears to have and end or a purpose - a telos - towards which everything is working, and for which it has been designed. It may be that this has happened by chance, but the argument is based on the notion that this is less likely than it happening by design, and then therefore a designer must exist who has planned this design and overseen its instigation. Aquinas included a form of this argument in the 'Summa Theologica' in the fifth way - 'from the governance of the world'.
