National Government lead, school sports strategies to encourage participation in school PESSCL Strategy The Government has invested very heavily, nearly one billion pounds between 2003 and 2008 to deliver the PESSCL strategy, which has an aim to encourage participation in sport by 85% in 5-16 year olds. It wants children to experience 2hours of high activity PE lessons and school sport beyond curriculum. By 2010 it aims to offer all children at least four hours every week, consisting of at least 2 hours PE and School Sport, and opportunity for 2-3 hours beyond the school day (delivered by a range of school community and club providers). School Sports Collage Sport Schools are part of special school programmes with is run by the Department of Education and Skills. They are regional focul points for encouraging excellence in PE and community Sport, this will help to extend links between familiar School Sports Bodies, sharing resources
