EXPLAIN THE TERM POLITICAL APATHY USED IN THE EXTRACT (8 MARKS) Apathy is described in the dictionary as "1. absence of interest in or enthusiasm for things generally considered interesting or moving. 2. absence of emotion". If you apply this to politics you can see that political apathy is the general populace showing a lack of concern about politics. The statistics in extract show that turnout was down 13% since the last election at only 59% voting had fallen for all of the parties but more especially for Labour and the Conservative party with voting down 2,800433 and 1,240,154 votes respectively. Turnout has often been described as the barometer of the health of British democracy and this shows that Britain's democracy is critically ill. The fact that turnout was lowest amongst the younger generation is especially worrying as it shows not only are the future electorate majority becoming more disillusioned...
