Why was the Labour Party created in 1900? The year 1900 witnessed the birth of The Labour Representation Committee, although The Independent Labour Party had existed since 1893 they had remained weak creating little change. One of the major factors as to why The Independent Labour Party had such little power was due to a lack of representation in The Houses of Parliament. Until the end of the 19th Century the working classes were represented by as little as three MP's , two of which were independent. This, however was not the only contributing factor leading to the evolution of the labour party, there were several other major aspects as to why The Labour Party and working classes gained political power. One of the main contributing factors leading to the creation of The Labour Representation Committee was the support of Trade Unions. Prior to 1900 The Independent Labour Party lacked...
