Why are Political Participation and Democracy Important? Both these concepts are important to citizens of a state. They give the citizen a voice, and the chance to make changes to how their state is run. If a citizen has an issue which they would like resolved, then somebody has to listen to their views, and unless that person is spreading unfounded rumours designed to tarnish somebody's reputation, then they are free to say what they want about their leader and their country. If the government will not listen to that person, then they have a chance every five years to elect a new government. This means that it is in the interest of the government to listen to the people on issues, because even though they can do more or less what they want in regards to making major changes to laws and the country as a whole, due to only...
