History Essay. What were the main features In Italian Political lives in the years after 1815? After the years 1815 there were four main political features I Italian life, The Legacy of Napoleon, Austria's rule and Metternich's involvement in Italy, the return of the Monarch's and the opposition towards the political regime (Liberals, Radicals, such as the Carbonari and Nationalists). Napoleons rule ended in 1815, following his defeat at Waterloo. Italy was subsequently left to decide what they would do about some of the changes that Napoleon had made. Italy had originally been 11 separate states; Napoleon had simplified them into 4 and then down to 3 separate Republics. Old ruling families, Kings, Princes, Dukes and Duchess were exiled and the Catholic Church was very poorly treated.
