What do you think were the most important reasons for the ending of the Apartheid? There are many reasons for the ending of Apartheid in South Africa between 1990 and 1994. It was not one individual event that changed things but a number of changes that took place over time. Some of the factors were long term, while others took place much more in the short term. During the 1960's there were attempts by the South African government to reinforce segregation and by creating a number of Bantustans, which had their own governments but by doing this they lost their rights elsewhere in South Africa. Many of the world's nations did not condone this and tried to impose economic sanctions against them, however, they saw South Africa as an important strategic partner against communism so trade was increased during this time.
