Western and Kett's rebellion Western Rebellion: The western rebellion also known as the western uprising was the first stirring popular rebellion in 1549 before summer. Where people rioted and fought against the government who were trying to control the rebellion. The rebellion came about from Cornwall from groups of rioters and the riots spread. There were many causes of this rebellion; religious causes such as the new law Edward VI prescribed which mean that the prayer book should be read in English rather than Latin in which it was, the law was effective as of Whitsunday 1549, many strong Catholics which were common at the time were not pleased with this at all. Raised prices were part of the cause, the war with Spain meant money was needed so debasement of the coin took place meaning shop keepers wanted more silver for their products so there was an increase of price.
