The Problems facing Weimar Germany in 1919. There were many problems facing Weimar Germany in 1919, most of them from the impact of World War 1. The war triggered political, psychological and physical effects on Germany by being defeated by the Allied Powers in November 1918. This caused low morale, as before they were a proud country but now they were bitter and angry and looked for someone to blame. There were also food shortages that made the country starving, which increased the low morale. The farming was disrupted as the workers were taken in to work in the armed forces. By 1918, Germany was only producing 50% of milk and 60% and meat which had been produced before the war. They could not import food from neighbouring countries as the British navy had blockaded the German ports, successfully preventing any food getting in. The combined effect of hunger and...
