How Accurate Is It To Describe 1959 Conservative Victory As Zenith Of Their Power As A Government 1951-64? For the Conservative Party, 1959 may have seemed to be another year of political success following the General Election victory. It was also considered by some to be the zenith of their power as a government. I will look at and analyse the broad atmosphere before, during and after the 1959 General Election. By doing this I will hopefully establish whether or not 1959 was the peak of the Conservatives as a government. By looking at the election results, world trade figures and the Conservatives' opposition- that came primarily from the Labour party- I will show that 1959 may have seemed to be the zenith of the Conservative party, but was actually the start of its downfall and/or the rise of the Labour party.
