Explain why did the Afrikaners set up and established an apartheid state, [in the period, 1948-56] South Africa is home to many different races, such as, the Portuguese, Dutch, Whites, Blacks Cape Coloured and Indians. However, in the past these races did not help each other to build a better county. In fact, most of the races despised each other, caused conflict or wanted what belonged to another ethnic group. There were wars and battles between several of these races leading to more nationalistic and racist beliefs. I will be exploring the reasons behind why the Afrikaners set up and established an apartheid State. I will look in depth at what motivated the Afrikaners do this and how they became so nationalistic. Afrikaners were Dutch farmers who came to South Africa in1652.
