Separatist pressure is when a group of people known as separatists, create pressure through democratic or extreme right wing action. Separatists are people who wish to break away from either a country or government of which they are being ruled. They may wish to completely break away or just become autonomous (have some degree of rule over themselves and yet still be under the same government). Usually the reason for this is if they have a different culture or heritage, such as the Basque people of the north western Pyrenees. There are essentially two groups of separatists in the Basque country, those who campaign democratically, and those who use extreme right wing tactics, they are known as ETA.
